OVpay Express Mode Now Available Across the Netherlands

The Netherlands has taken another major step forward in the evolution of contactless public transport payments with the nationwide introduction of OVpay Express Mode. The new functionality enables passengers to check in and out using their smartphone or smartwatch without unlocking the device first, making public transport even faster, easier, and more convenient.

Already known as the new standard for public transport payments in the Netherlands, OVpay allows passengers to travel using their physical OV card, payment card, or digital wallet on Apple and Android devices. With Express Mode, travelers can simply present their phone or smartwatch at the validator, delivering a seamless tap-and-go experience while maintaining the high security standards of Apple Pay and Google Wallet. Device authentication remains required for retail payments, ensuring secure everyday use.

Prodata PTexcellence is proud to have played a pioneering role in this innovation. As one of the first technology partners involved, Prodata participated in the early development, integration, and testing of Express Mode functionality, helping validate the technology before its nationwide rollout. Following this successful introduction, Express Mode is now supported by all validator suppliers across the Dutch public transport network, ensuring a consistent passenger experience regardless of the operator or equipment manufacturer.

This achievement once again demonstrates the Netherlands' position as a global leader in open-loop EMV transit payments and highlights Prodata PTexcellence's continued commitment to delivering innovative, future-proof fare collection technologies that improve the passenger journey.
