Russia: Moscow Metro and Mosgortrans

Prodata Systems has been the supplier of hardware and software for the Moscow based AFC operator Smart Technologies, which on its turn has major ICT contracts with the Moscow Public transport operators Moscow Metro and Mosgortrans (surface transportation).

Among these contracts and services provided by Smart Technologies is the full implementation and operation of an integrated AFC system. Our collaboration with Smart Technologies is dating back till 1995. Since 2001 the AFC system of Moscow Metro has been gradually transformed towards a contactless card based AFC system.

Moscow Mosgortrans

A fully integrated AFC system is installed based on magnetic and contactless smart cards. The on-board validator is connected to an on-board turnstile, controlling passenger access. The system also includes an integrated depot management for uploading operational data and downloading transaction files. A central back office processes and reports the daily operation of the AFC system. The total operation of Mosgortrans consists of 8.000 vehicles (trams, buses and trolleybuses), 12 major depots and 1.400 points of sale. The back office application handles approximately 7.000.000 transactions a day.

Moscow Metro

A fully integrated AFC system is installed based on magnetic and contactless smart cards. It is using magnetic and smart card readers integrated in turnstiles, point-of-sale systems in all metro vestibules, integrated with station computers and linked to the central AFC back office system. The total operation of Moscow metro consists of 258 metro stations with 2.800 gates and 784 points-of-sale. The back office application handles approximately 10.000.000 transactions a day.
